Being one of the cheapest exercises available, it is accessible to one and all. Neither you need a huge fitness studio nor a bevvy of equipment to begin this journey on the road to fitness. To start skipping, you only need a sturdy skipping rope and you can practise this exercise wherever you want - be it outdoors in a garden or indoors at your home.
To begin with, you need a skipping rope, which is good, sturdy with a strong handle. It should be of a length that's suitable to your height and not too heavy, at least during the first few weeks of your training sessions. It is imperative that you choose the rope of an appropriate size and weight. Skipping ropes are easily available in all markets and sports retailers in India in most sizes.
To start skipping, hold both the handles in each hand and stand at the centre of the rope. Pull the open handles upwards until the skipping rope is taut. Do check if the handles are in line at the centre of your chest. If the rope is being held disproportionately, adjust the handles and check again. You can now start your skipping session. Do as many as physically possible in the beginning. Gradually, you can increase the number of jumps as per your stamina and need. If need be, you can take advise from any physio instructors to set a limit or plan for your skipping training sessions.
